McDreamy

For those of you who watch Grey's Anatomy, Meredith Grey's boyfriend (they are both doctors), the very hunky Patrick Dempsey, is nicknamed McDreamy. Side note: for those of you who do not watch it, it's a great show!

So, on the day Dylan was born - Jeff walks into Laura's labor and delivery room and is greeted by Laura's doctor who immediately hands Jeff scrubs. He hadn't even put his overnight bag down yet. Laura is out of the bed and ready to walk herself down to the OR for her emergency c-section. Jeff hands her the camera and says "Hey, I look like McDreamy-take my picture!"

Christmas

Since Laura came home from the hospital on Christmas Eve, we didn't have our annual dinner at Mom & Dad Welch's until tonight. It was a great time: great food and great presents!

Doctor Doctor...Can't you see I'm growin' growin'

Baby Dylan had his first well-baby visit today, 12/28. I was off work yesterday and today, since Laura can't drive-I took them. He weighs more than his birth weight, which is the goal for all babies after two weeks. Since he's only 8 days old, this is a great thing. He now weighs 5 pounds 10.5 ounces. Yes, I had to add on that half ounce-it makes a difference.

He was so good for the doctor. Laura made sure she fed him right before we left the house so he'd be satisfied and sleepy. It did the trick. He didn't even hardly stir when I had to undress him down to his diaper. The second the doctor took off his diaper, he peed straight up in the air and right on her. I guess that's the breaks when you are in that line of work. Dr. Wilson said that he's doing great!

Jeff told me while they were still in the hospital, that he'd run up to the store and get some clothing for Dylan. This is where I HAD to step in! His Aunt Lori and I went out and bought all new clothes for him in preemie and newborn, as all he had was 0-3 months. He's so tall that the preemie stuff fits him around the chest, but if it's footed-he gets ticked off since he can't straighten out his legs. The newborn stuff hangs off his sides, but is long enough. The 0-3 month stuff-we won't even think about yet.

The outfit we put him in today is too big for him, but he'll be filling it in soon enough. It was a onesie that I got him with a pair of powder blue pants. The onesie it came with was short sleeved, so Aunt Lori got him a powder blue hoodie to match. I think he looks like a rapper!

Sagittarius Baby

Optimistic, outgoing, and content, little Archers are true explorers. Put him in a carrier or stroller and he'll happily go wherever led. Spend time roaming around the backyard and checking out the nabe. He needs lots of exercise for physical and mental health. He will bounce back quickly from little spills and failures. But, he also gets bored easily and constantly needs new toys. To hold his attention, read lots of stories about exciting adventures in faraway lands - and promise that he'll get to visit them someday too.

Special Christmas Delivery

We had a very special delivery this year for Christmas!

Laura was not due until New Years Day, but Dylan Michael Nikiel was born on Thursday. We are all extremely overjoyed (especially Jeff who gets the tax deduction for 2007)!

There were some complications which led to an emergency c-section, but mom and baby are doing wonderfully. Dylan is a little small due to some issues with the placenta, low heart rate, and lack of fluid, but Laura’s feeding him non-stop so he’ll be big and strong just like his daddy.

I think he looks a lot like his mommy, he has her nose. But, he is very long for his weight and has enormous hands and feet, so we believe he will be tall and thin like his daddy.

Here’s the stats:
Date & Time: 12/20/2007 @ 8:01 pm
Weight: 5 pounds 6 ounces
Height: 19 inches
Cuteness: Off the charts
Happy New Year!

Laura's Shower

Laura's shower was November 4th. We had tons of food and desserts. Laura and Jeff got so many presents, we had to make a million trips to several cars to get everything home. Lori made beautiful centerpieces and helped out lots. It was great for our families to get together too.
