Today is Dylan's first birthday. I was on vacation Thurs and Fri and Laura didn't have to work last night. Since I didn't have to work this weekend (THANK GOODNESS!) I offered to go over Laura's this afternoon so she could take a nap before working tonight. Usually if I'm not babysitting him Friday, mom goes over on Saturday. However, mom has been going every Saturday since I've been working. So I wanted to repay her today. Poor Jeff worked like 70 hours this week so I asked if I could have Dylan sleep over tonight so Jeff could recover. Mark and I went out to dinner to our favorite restaurant and took D with us. He was such a good boy!!

Today is his first birthday!! Today is also my last blog post on this website. I've decided it's too hard to keep up with both blogs, so I am going to just post Dylan stuff on my regular blog.

Sorry I haven't blogged on D Man's website in a while. I blame Laura though - she hasn't been taking as many pictures as she used to. :) I am not that much better, I took a few pics and a video but didn't get a chance to upload them yet. Dylan is standing now without assistance. He can stand there for a good little while too! Even more exciting are the steps he's taking. Laura and I sit on the floor, and he walked two or three tiny steps over to me!! When you let go, you kinda have to stabilize him so he finds his balance. Then, he just goes! How great to see!! My dad said he'd be walking before his first birthday. We'll see...

We always have a blast when Dylan comes over.

Don't you love how pictures capture the moment and things you wouldn't normally see. Blarney is of course on my lap-he's on the right.

The house turns into complete chaos on babysitting nights. Check out the floor-shoes everywhere, Dylan's toys and Blarney's toys spread all about (there's that beheaded chicken I blogged about earlier)! We don't have a DVD player, we just use the Play Station-which Dylan loves to play with the controller. He takes my stack of papers by the laptop and throws them all over the table.

Mom came over Laura's on Saturday so she could take a nap before she had to work Saturday night. Laura said that Dylan took his first step, well kind-of. He was by his activity table and let go and kind of moved forward on his own. He then, promptly, fell...so that probably doesn't count. So far he's had Gardenburgers, sweet potato fries, Cheerios, etc. Unfortunately, his favorite food (even though he hasn't eaten a piece yet!!) is Stan's dog food. He's fascinated by the dog bowl!! I think I mentioned that Dylan is pulling himself up on everything now. He grabs onto the couch and pulls himself right up. I can't believe how strong he is! One other way he amazes me is that he side steps around this activity table. He hasn't taken any steps on his own, but he completely can circle the table!! He's such a big boy!!!

When we went to Vegas last summer, we picked up this shortie outfit for D Man. In the LV Hilton, they have this huge Star Trek museum. Mark spend hours in it, I could have walked through in about 5 minutes, but that's neither here nor there. They had some cool "ride" at the end, more of a 3-D movie with chairs that moved so you felt like you were on a ride. Anyway, we picked up this Captain! This diaper can't take it anymore outfit. I love it!

He's still not in full knee crawl mode, but scoots around everywhere. He's fast as a whip too!! He does get up on his knees but then falls back down to his army-belly crawl.

His new thing is that he pulls himself up to his feet now! He isn't strong enough to pull up on furniture yet, and Laura doesn't have a coffee table. However, if you are sitting on the floor, he'll pull himself up to his feet using your legs. He also has a walker which he loves to play in. He's pretty strong for such a little fella.

Dylan cut his first tooth. His little toofa is just three white dots on the bottom middle of his gum, but it's there!! He's been grabbing his ear, which the doctor said is a sign of teething. He's also been very "mouthy" lately. So, Laura rubs her fingers across his gums at least twice a day to check for signs of cutting a tooth. I took Thursday off work to go with Laura and Dylan to the doctor (I have several vacation days I need to use up). Laura said it wasn't there Thurs AM, but popped through when we were at the mall shopping after his appt. I got to feel it first hand. I haven't checked its progress yesterday when I was babysitting and he's asleep now. I'll check it again when he wakes up.

Jeff's mom had her gallbladder removed on Thursday and had some complications that resulted in her being in the ER for a few day. She's supposed to be transferred to the regular floor today though. Feel better Sue!

I watched D Man Friday night and Saturday. We had a good time. He was a little cranky Friday night, but finally fell asleep. He woke up so happy! He sleeps through the night now which is so wonderful!!! We have a lot of fun playing with all of his toys. Laura takes him for walks at least once a day, but it was 90 today, so I decided to take him for his walk at Target. Laura needed diapers, so it was a good excuse. Mark had a remote start installed in my Edge, so I can start the car and get the AC going from in the house. Moving from an AC house, to an AC car, to an AC store - it's a wonderful thing!!

He has a few new tricks up his sleeve too. As Lori posted, he has been eyeing Laura's drinking cup and/or water bottles. So, she decided to put his milk in a sippy cup - he doesn't like the sippy top but he loves it if you just hold the cup up to his mouth, tip it a little bit so he can drink out of it like a little hummingbird. He likes it better than bottles! He's also eating cereal once a day and Laura's been mixing in some first baby food for more nutrients. He's still kind of small, so we are trying to get him to gain some weight and go up a percentile or two.

His other trick is he scoots now. He has moved as many as two feet in one direction! It's not quite crawling yet. He picks up his butt, and digs his toes into the carpet and pushes off like a froggy jump. Sometimes he gets his hands to dig into the carpet for some pulling action. Sometimes his arms just flop around. Once he figures out that he has knee caps, there will be no stopping him. No pictures to post, but I still have a few more from Laura's camera that I'll be posing later this week. Hopefully my new camera will be in this week so I can go crazy with pictures!

Tonight Laura and I went to see Great Grandpa Welch. It turns him 20 years younger, I swear. It's so great to see Grandpa like that. It's like my childhood again - playing with him. Dylan does not like the bottle, so Laura thought she'd try him on rice cereal. That way, he'll have a little something more in his stomach while Jeff and I are babysitting. A week of firsts

On Tuesday, Laura took Dylan to Target for his first shopping trip there. She said he was perfectly behaved!

Tonight, Dylan has his first sleepover - AT AUNTIE LINDA'S HOUSE!! I went over Laura's after work and left for home around 6:45. Mark noticed a puddle of water underneath our spare side-by-side in the garage. The extra loaf of bread in there was completely defrosted. The other items in the freezer were okay because they were frozen hard. I took everything out of both freezers and managed to fit almost everything in our kitchen freezer. There were a few items that I couldn't fit, so my parents came by to pick them up and store them in their freezer. Mark watched Dylan while I was doing all of this - they had fun. Anyway, back to Dylan. We did okay. He doesn't like to eat out of a bottle, so he only ate a few ounces at 8 and 10. Then he fell asleep, but when I went to put him down for the night, he woke up and stayed awake for about an hour. He is a very loud sleeper and moves around a lot. I went over Laura's around 6 am and came home around 3. I think both Laura and Dylan got a good amount of sleep this afternoon.

I picked this up for D Man when I was in the outlet mall in Pittsburgh PA. The coolest thing is there is no sales tax on clothing in PA. That is a savings of 7.75% which really adds up when you think about it. It was on the clearance rack at GAP and I thought it was really cute. It's got that kangaroo pouch in the front.

I may have forgotten to mention that Dylan is now rolling over back to belly - not just belly to back as previously. He rolls all over the place now - even in his crib at night while he is sleeping!

OK, no picture to go along with my post, but I wanted to share a Dylan story anyway. I went to visit Dylan this past Sunday and hang out with Jeff while Laura was working. Dylan was hanging on the floor when I arrived doing his 'running man' thing where his legs go and go and go!

So I picked him up and started to play. He was so funny, which made me laugh which must have been funny to Dylan, because then he started to giggle out loud! This made me laugh even harder to the point that I was crying. It was hysterical. Also, I got the 'pouty face' a few times, but no crying the whole time I was there. It was so much fun.

He has giggled out loud for mommy several times, but this was the first time daddy got to enjoy it too!

Laura bought Dylan three new Lamaze Learning brand toys. Mortimer the Moose was first, and Dylan loved him. He's got four different colored feet and makes a different rattle, crinkle, or noise. His body is so soft and cuddly. Love, Aunt LindaSo Laura bought Jacques the Peacock. Jacques is my favorite of the three-he is beautiful. The front is so colorful and the back is black and white. He's got crinkle "feathers", a squeaker, a mirror, and is so colorful.

Morgan the Monkey came third, but didn't make it into the pictures though. He makes a funky noise when you bounce him up and down and has stretchy legs.

Laura and I went to go see Grandpa Welch, Dylan's Great Grandpa. Grandpa had a great time holding him, bouncing him on his knee, and singing him songs.
Aunt Kelly loved holding Dylan too - so did her kids. It was a great time! Uncle David called while we were there so it was nice to get to talk to him too.

Jeff was off work, so Laura, Jeff, and Dylan met Marie and I at Red Robin for lunch one day last week.

It was pretty nippy out, so they bundled Dylan up in his snow suit. As you can see, he wasn't too happy to put it on. Check out the snowsuit Laura bought him from H&M - IT HAS A TAIL AND EARS!!! It's the softest thing I have ever felt.

What a glorious day!

Today my Godson, Dylan, was baptized. The service was very nice. While I did get a little misty, I did not cry my eyes out. Dylan looked so handsome in his satin white outfit. He had cuffed pants, a white dress shirt, and white socks with crosses on them. He also had a vest with matching tie that had a shiny white paisley pattern on them. Jeff’s best friend, Jon, was the Godfather. Jeff is Jon’s daughter, Carmella’s, Godfather. Dylan was good during the actual baptism, but got hungry during church and Jeff had to take him in the back to give him his bottle. After church, we went to my mom’s for a party. There were about 25 people or so. Laura and my mom ordered food from Stancato’s: Belgian waffles, hash browns, eggs with cheese and ham, and breakfast pizza with eggs cheese and bacon. They also got 5 rolls (nut, poppyseed, and apple) from Barano’s Bakery. Aunt Lori got bagels from Panera, and Marie and I made muffins. We had so much food! We’ll be eating brunch for weeks to come. Thanks to everyone who did so much to help. I borrowed chairs and tables from several people, Marie snuck out of church early to let the caterers in, light candles, etc. Also, yesterday, she painted my nails since I can’t see—much appreciated. Here’s quite a few pictures. I couldn’t decide which ones not to post, so there are several. Our professional photographer, Uncle Tom, took a lot of pictures too. I’m sure we’ll be posting more soon!

Belly and Back (again) A Dylan's Tale

Okay, belly and back - not again, but I had a LOTR thing going. Proud Aunt Linda has been told by Laura that Dylan learned to roll from his belly to his back today. She put him down for some tummy time, she turned around for a second, and when she looked down, he was on his back. I asked her if maybe Stan pushed him or something, but Laura said no. She put him on his belly again, and he did it all by himself again! Very exciting! She got it on video! Now for the bad part, I was with D Man both Sunday and Tuesday - could he have learned it a day earlier so I could have seen it - no. That's okay, I am sure that he will demonstrate it for me when I see him this weekend. Love, Aunt Linda

I didn't want to trump the professional picture post, but I didn't want to forget to do this while I had a minute. Auntie Lori and Uncle Tom visited Laura, Jeff and Dylan on Saturday. D Man is too cute. He farted, sneezed, ate, slept, cried, played and I think smiled a little during the course of our visit. I imagine he is saying to himself "she has got to be the crazy one!" Laura, Dylan, and I went to church for Ash Wednesday service. When we went up for communion, Pastor blessed Dylan and I got a little misty. When we got back to our pew, Laura asked if I would be able to hold it together during his baptism. I said I’d try, but I can’t make any promises though. Mark and I were trying out a few churches/schools a little closer to our house, and total strangers were having their daughter baptized and I cried. I’ll report back after February 24th how I held up. Love, Aunt Linda

I went over Laura's after work today. Jeff picked up a pizza and cheesy garlic bread-yum! We just hung out and played a little. Dylan is really getting big now: he holds his head up, holds things with his hands. Of course, he loves his paci-he is Laura's son!! Love, Aunt Linda

Thumb Part Deux

Auntie Lori visited with Dylan on his one month birthday last night. He is so precious. I tried to get all my kisses in until the next time I see him. He changed so much in two weeks. I even noticed that his eyelashes were longer! Also, right before I was about to give him back to mommy, Dylan started sucking his thumb, so Jeff grabbed my camera. It was most likely because he was ready to eat and mean Auntie Lori took his binky away to make room for more kisses!

Jeff's back to work after his two week vacation and Laura and Dylan have been on their own while he's at work since Thursday. Laura said Dylan has been sleeping about 4-5 hours at night in his crib like a big boy! The nursery is so cute, I'd like to sleep in it! Jeff's off on Monday and they have another well baby visit. I will report in once I know how much he weighs now. He's outgrowing some of his newborn clothing and diapers - soon he'll be in 0-3 month clothing.

Dylan found his thumb the other day. Laura said he was fussing and his hands were in front of his face. She said his thumb just popped right into his mouth. He sucked it for a few seconds then took it out and looked at it intently. He then put it back in his mouth and took it back out - again looking at it. Finally, he sucked on it for a few minutes. I told Laura that he probably thought it was a dud because there was no milk coming out of it! Laura said he only did it once and and hasn't done it since. When I went over there yesterday, I asked him to do it again, but he wouldn't. I also asked him to say Auntie Linda, but he didn't do that either - darn!

Chubby thighs

Mom and I went over to Dylan's yesterday. Laura and I changed his little diaper while mom was folding Laura's laundry. I was so happy to have Laura point out that he has a little fat fold on his chubby thigh. I don't know why it's so cute in babies and so unappealing in adults-life isn't fair.

7.35 and Counting

The home health nurse came out today everything is fine. She did a health screen on Laura and Dylan and he grew a half inch (19.5) and he gained little under a pound (7.35). He is well on his way to be another chubby Nikiel! I didn't think it was possible for Dylan to be any cuter, but he seems to get cuter with each gained pound! Man, I wish I could say the same for myself, but sadly it is not the case for Auntie Lori.
